Broncos Trade Guard Montrae Holland to Dallas for 5th Rounder

The Broncos traded guard Montrae Holland to the Cowboys for a 5th round pick in the 2010 draft today. He lost his starting job when reporting to camp this year 20 pounds overweight.

In other Cowboys news, cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was reinstated today by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Broncos Notes 8/28

The Rocky Mountain News discusses how the Broncos may have to alter their game plan during Brandon Marshall’s upcoming three game suspension. RMN also takes a look at WR Clifford Russell and other players who are on the bubble this week to make the roster and RMN’s Sam Adams points out the Cutler to Marshall connection could be unique.

The Denver Post claims rookie tackle Ryan Clady is fitting right in as a Broncos lineman on and off the field. The Post also reports legendary Broncos Randy Gradishar and Floyd Little are snubbed once again as Hall of Fame nominees.

ESPN’s Bill Williamson quickly weighs in with some quick notes after visiting the Broncos facility, in addition to a glance at the teams lower profile rookies.

Marshall Appeals, Andre Hall Ready to Rumble

The Broncos top wide receiver Brandon Marshall missed practice yesterday to appeal his suspension before league officials in New York. Coach Mike Shanahan said it could take a couple of days or weeks to learn if Marshall’s appeal is successful. The Denver Post also reports that the NFL may look into changing the leagues future regular season schedule from 16 games to 18 as part of the new collective bargaining agreement for 2011. The idea hinges on doing away with two preseason games, which are often see less ticket sales since starters have limited playing time or do not play at all.

RMN reports running back Andre Hall is feeling confident and can’t wait for the season to start especially after having tough times in Tampa Bay and Chicago where he didn’t make the teams. RMN also has a piece on former Broncos cornerback Tyrone Braxton. Braxton talks about his winning battle with drug addiction and his new volunteer job as an assistant High School football coach.

Broncos Release WR Taylor Jacobs

The Broncos trimmed their roster to 75 players today by releasing wide receiver Taylor Jacobs. RMN also reports defensive end Carlton Powell was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list today.

Dumervil Could Miss Oakland Game

The Denver Post reports DE Elvis Dumervil’s broken pinky was a little bit more severe than originally thought. He had four pins surgically inserted into his right pinky finger and could miss the season opener.

The Post also has a write-up on Nate Webster after winning the starting middle linebacker job and Mike Klis serves up his latest mailbag answering questions ranging from the effectiveness of Patrick Ramsey to John Lynch and spying.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Broncos WR Darrell Jackson will not see the field until the season opener at Oakland. The offseason free agent acquisition is likely to start in place of Brandon Marshall. Jackson was held out of the last two preseason games with an ankle sprain. RMN also takes a quick look at some of the remaining position battles before Denver’s final preseason game against the Cardinals.

Broncos Evening Notes 8/25

The Broncos trimmed their roster down to 76 players earlier today releasing wide receiver Samie Parker, waiving wide receiver Lorne Sam and tackle Josh Mallard. The team must cut another player go before Tuesday to meet the 75 player requirement. The DP article mentions the Broncos liked Mallard’s versatility and intensity and state they may consider bringing him back if he doesn’t sign with another team soon.

Update: Linebacker Nate Webster was just named the starting Broncos middle linebacker winning the position battle for this preseason over free agent acquisition Niko Koutovides.

Broncos Notes 8/25

The Rocky Mountain News looks at Jay Cutler’s excellent quarterback statistics this preseason.

Yahoo Sports posted its most recent Broncos team report. The rather meaty article serves upĀ  many different tidbits about the team on its way to the final preseason game, addresses the Brandon Marshall suspension and reveals that NFL films president Steve Sabol will probably ask the Denver Broncos to be featured in next year’s “Hard Knocks” HBO reality show. When asked about it, Pat Bowlen stated “I’m not averse to it, but I’m not all that into it.”

Bad news for the Giants as defensive end Osi Umenyiora will have season ending knee surgery. The Raiders WR Drew Carter and FB Oren O’Neal are also done for the season due to injuries.

Broncos Notes 8/24

Denver Post writer Woody Paige comments on the 2008 Broncos position-by-position. The DP also looks at a few possible roster cuts coming this Tuesday.

Marquand Manuel and Elvis Dumervil are likely to play in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders. Broncos officials believe Tom Nalen’s knee surgery went well.

This AP article appearing on CBS4 Denver suggests Denver will sorely miss Brandon Marshall’s talent on the field due to his two or three game suspension. The Denver Post reports its possible that Marshall’s suspension could be greatly reduced.

Bad news for the San Diego Chargers as LB Shawne Merriman has two torn ligaments in his left knee. The RMN article reveals his doctors claim the injury could be career threatening if he does not have surgery to repair them.
