Broncos Name John Fox Head Coach

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
John Fox Broncos

Draft history will repeat itself (AP Photo)

The Broncos named John Fox their new head coach today.

In John Fox’s first year with the Carolina Panthers, the team had the second pick in the 2002 draft.

They chose Julius Peppers.

In 2011, Fox’s new team has the second pick in the draft.

We better choose Julius Peppers, or Neil Smith.

You see that Bowers? That Fairley? That’s the next Julius Peppers and the next Neil Smith out there.

I don’t care who the Broncos picked as their next head coach, but I do care who we pick first in the draft.

It better be Bowers or Fairley, you don’t pay out the ass for a cornerback.

Brandon Lloyd, Champ Bailey? If they want tons of money, then each of them can go. We’ll be fine. That’s right, just like we replaced Marshall with Lloyd, we can replace Champ with a second rounder or someone in free agency, we can replace Lloyd with Thomas.

You don’t pay out the ass for a corner. You don’t pay out the ass for a wide receiver. You do break the bank for top tier defensive line talent.

Defensive line–talk about the Denver Broncos most dire position of need, and we better address it. I want us to draft a 9 year starter on our defensive line with that first round pick.

Anything less is uncivilized.

The Case for Ron Rivera

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Ron Rivera
If Ron Rivera’s interview (Brian Xanders claims they will target him), if his interview goes even reasonably well, we should pull the trigger.

1. It hurts the Chargers.
2. He knows how to field a defense, he fielded a top one for years in Chicago and now with the Chargers.
3. He knows the AFC West, and he knows our rival the Chargers and what it will take to beat them.
4. It hurts the Chargers.

He’s a defense guy and he probably won’t mind Elway and the offensive coordinator having most of the say regarding offense. He’s wanted this gig for a while now and he probably won’t cost and arm and a leg. Unlike that Harbaugh, I’m glad we didn’t fork over that much cash for him, I don’t think he’s worth it.

I’ve got a funny feeling that Rick Dennison may be the guy we hire though. That’s OK with me, just as long as we pick that Nick Fairley with Bowers off the board. I’ll settle for the next Richard Seymour. This Fairley’s got a mean streak and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. No concern to me, it’s a positive as far as I’m concerned.

Andrew Luck Stays at Stanford and I’m OK with Fairley

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

The Da’Quan Bowers Bowl just went up in flames. Carolina will probably pick him, damn it all. There’s still a shot they pick someone else, but if not I’m OK with Nick Fairley. I’ll still take what could be the next Richard Seymour any day over the next Champ Bailey. This Broncos team desperately needs star players at the point of attack. Fairley, Bowers, they’re both worth the risk. Comparing Jarvis Moss to either of these players is a joke. We reached for Moss with the 17th pick, Fairley and Bowers are top five talent. You’re not in position that often to get such players, and I will never understand why some people are married to the idea of a must-have shutdown corner in the Broncos secondary.

We shut down their top receiver, isn’t that great?

4 and 11, 8 and 8, 7 and 9 but oh no, we consistently shut down other teams star receivers!

That’s just wonderful ain’t it. You want to talk about team needs? How about a pass rush. We have one guy who is capable of getting sacks and that don’t cut it. Disruptive forces, talented players collapsing the pocket, winning the battles at the point of attack–that’s how you field a defense. We shut down top receivers alright, then the Jamarcus Russels of the world sit back and throw for 300 yards on us to some 3rd and 4th string receivers.

I hope this Luck throws twenty picks and ten touchdowns next year. He’s gonna screw us out of our choice of defensive lineman, so screw him. I hope his stock falls faster than Lehman Brothers.

I Want Jeff Legwold Censored or Fired

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
Jeff Legwold

The Great Jeff Legwold

Jeff Legwold is taking over as village idiot of the Denver Post.

Nevermind Numby insisting the Broncos fork over 50 million plus for Brandon Marshall last year, this Legwold is out of control.

I want him censored or fired for conduct detrimental to the team. Conduct detrimental to the damn team.

Unbelievable this guy: “Da’Quan Bowers is Robert Ayers,” “Draft a cornerback with the #2 first round pick,” “League sources believe Denver will have a hard time transitioning to a 4-3.”

Who is this guy? Is he working for the Chargers? Does this guy even watch the Broncos play?

Draft a *^(*&in cornerback with the first pick? Are you *&%in kidding me?

We’ve had an all world cornerback for the last six years and where’s that gotten us? How about opposing quarterbacks sitting back and lighting us up time and time again?

Ever wonder why a Jason Campbell has career days against our defense? We have these also ran quarterbacks throwing to some fourth string wide receiver making all kinds of plays on us since we can’t rush the quarterback.

I’m tired of it. I’m sick and tired of this complete BS. This team can’t rush the passer and Elvis Dumervil coming back isn’t nearly enough. It’s not enough. Pumpkinhead Madden knows it, you can’t have enough pass rushers on your defense and you certainly don’t ever, ever pass up a guy who can rush the QB and play the run. Name the players who can do that–not many–and they’re often making 50 million plus for a reason. What did the Giants do when they had Strahan plus Tuck and were in a position to draft someone other than a pass rusher? They drafted yet another premium pass rusher and it’s the prime reason they smoked one of the all-time great offensive juggernauts in the Superbowl.

Here we have a shot at the very top pass rusher in the draft, an athletic freak with 15.5 sacks, 26 tackles for a loss and we’d even consider not drafting him? Are you *&%ing *(^(%ing me?

You build your team around a Da’Quan Bowers. You don’t build a team around a cornerback. Did the Broncos have a Champ Bailey in their Superbowl runs? Do the Saints have one? The Colts?

ESPN League Source

NFL Personnel Executive says: "Legwold is a genius."

Didn’t this team play a 4-3 at times earlier this season because we had players “better suited” for a 4-3? All of a sudden it’s the other way around–I suppose anonymous league sources should know.

And in some ways, it is the same profile Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has as the 2011 draft approaches — a player who works out well but had just one top-tier season as a starter in college.

Bowers, a junior who has yet to declare for the NFL draft, had better sack numbers this season than Ayers did in his final year at Tennessee, but there is always a question about pass-rush players who don’t post consistent sack numbers throughout their collegiate careers.–Jeff Legwold

Bowers is Robert Ayers. That’s a new one. What a joke. 15.5 sacks compared to Ayers three? That doesn’t even deserve to be heard. The genius Legwold continues his stream of worthless bile by pointing out Ayers is the Broncos only true defensive end in a 4-3–according to “NFL personnel people.” I suppose there’s no way Bowers would dominate yet again in college next year. Oh and by the way Jeffrey, Bowers just declared–sorry to %&%^ in your nachos.

Legwold adds insult to injury by comparing Bowers to Jarvis Moss–what a joke. I remember seeing Jarvis Moss when Shanahan picked him, I said he better be fast and quick and he better have moves because he looks on the frail side. This Bowers is 6’4 280 where Jarvis Moss is 6′ 7 257 in his fourth season. That’s great, Bowers is Jarvis Moss and Robert Ayers rolled into one.  Great analysis Legwold.

Kiper’s take: My current No. 2 player on the Board, the guy projects as an immediate starter at the NFL level and one who will cause negative plays from Week 1.

I don’t care what Kiper’s said in the past, he’s right on this kid. I’ve watched our Clemson team all year long, you don’t pass on this kid, this monster who will strike fear in the heart of opposing quarterbacks and wreak havoc alongside Elvis Dumervl on a level hitherto never before seen–especially on this Broncos team.

If the Broncos switch to the 4-3, they aren’t likely to keep Vickerson, McBean or Williams. Vickerson played in the 4-3 with Tennessee and Seattle, but couldn’t keep a job with either team.–Denver Post Dunce

Vickerson, McBean, Williams–you know what? All three of them can walk. If that’s true anyways–that these players couldn’t play in a 4-3 which I question (they were barely effective in a 3-4 for God’s sake) Williams probably will retire anyways, but oh no better not hurt any of their feelings since our defensive front was so stellar this year. I suppose we got a bunch of Pro Bowlers up there we better not get rid of, better not anger any of them with a change of scheme–what a joke.

This defense hasn’t been good for years. We’ve been a disaster of a 3-4 defense. I think we played better as a 4-3 in recent years quite honestly.

What a joke, what a laugh. We will draft Bowers, we will get Dumervil back and Marcus Thomas, Bannan and whoever else can hang with a 4-3 will stay. The rest? See you later. We can even acquire or draft some 4-3 interior bodies–it ain’t rocket science. Our corners are pretty decent without Bailey. Draft one in the second or third round, pick up an Andre Goodman in free agency.

This is a no-brainer. I am confident John Elway and Co. aren’t this stupid. If they are this dumb, if they blow the chance at the next Julius Peppers or even trade down for a couple also rans–you know what–I’m done with this organization. Done with them for lack of mental acuity on a level hitherto never before seen. I don’t even care who the coach is. They want Mularkey? Fine, but they better draft Bowers. The only consolation I’m willing to accept is Nick Fairley. Even then, this Bowers better not, he better not turn out to be a supreme playmaking Julius Pepper style force for some other team. Talk about blowing it, talk about screwing the neighbor’s cat when you have a shot at a premium pass rusher. Can you imagine Dumervil on the right, Bowers on the left? You can’t contain one of them all the time. Robert Ayers? He’s a run stuffer who can get pressure. I’m disappointed in his pass rushing ability. That said, put him in there on first downs, have him spot Dumervil and Bowers. Talk about a rotation? Holy hell this is an absolute no-brainer. You have to be mentally defective to not see the impact on defense this kid could give us. He has the potential for Defensive… Franchise… Player.

The Broncos do need bodies. But I think you go with it — and at this point, even if, as I think, Champ returns, I’d pick one of these cornerbacks, Patrick Peterson of LSU or Prince Amukamara of Nebraska, or defensive linemen Da’Quan Bowers of Clemson.–Numby

You almost saved yourself Numby by throwing Bowers into the equation. However, the fact that you even mentioned the other two cornerbacks is a trainwreck. Why the hell should this organization be married to the idea of a star cornerback? We already have one–maybe as good a one as you can ever get–and why on earth do we want to field the very same team over and over again? Hey Legwold and Numby, let’s just keep all our amazing defensive lineman and draft a star corner to replace Champ so we can field last year’s team all over again? What a total travesty. What a recipe for mediocrity and disaster.

Unbelievable that these morons even consider a corner with the first pick, I don’t care how good he might be. Oh and that corner we already have? He’s real good against the run too ain’t he–a whole hell of a lot of good that does us.

I’ve said it before I”ll say it again we need a Champ Bailey at the point of attack. You’re sitting right there with the number two pick and there’s a premier pass rusher who makes big plays against the run? It’s a no brainer folks.

Da'Quan Bowers Broncos

The Athletic Freak

I’m confident Elway and Co. aren’t mental defectives running a ship of fools.

Tebow Derangement Syndrome and Denver Post Insanity

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow almost beats a team that usually dominates the Broncos, but his throwing release is the story of the day. Getty Images

Still, Tebow’s release is a concern. It hasn’t come into play against a pass rush, yet, but it does cause his passes to arrive a tad late.–Mike Klis

I’m sick and tired of this “Tebow’s release” crap. It’s a bunch of BS. It’s water cooler mentality and group-think. I don’t care how he releases the ball. I don’t care if he pats the ball before he throws either (something they accused Elway of).

The rookie went out there in the last three games and performed well. He moved the chains, scored touchdowns and did things Kyle Orton could never even dream of. Namely running for crucial third downs, but he also threw the ball well for a rookie.

Tebow performed like the second best quarterback in the 2010 draft.  Colt McCoy? Oh yeah I wish we had him–not to mention Jimmy Clausen. Wouldn’t that be great? Surely either of those quarterbacks would inspire confidence in Broncos Nation?

What a joke. The kid played well overall and I don’t see his throwing motion as a problem, not whatsoever. I don’t care if he twirls the ball around in one arm before he throws as long as he moves the offense and scores touchdowns. He throws a beautiful spiral and this whole issue of “being late” with his throws is a piece of crap.

He finished his rookie season as a 50 percent passer. There isn’t a quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinator in the league who will say a 50 percent completion percentage is enough in today’s NFL.-Jeff Legwold

Oh ain’t that something? Might as well close the book on Timmy Teebs– three games and he’s no pocket passer. Might as well give up and try to get that Luck kid somehow?

Is this a joke? What was this kid supposed to do? Come out there and just light up the league after a few practices with the first team? It’s much too early to get worried about passer ratings anyways, and quite frankly I don’t give two turds in a paper bag about his stats. Don’t give a rip about his stats or his throwing motion. Move the chains, score touchdowns and win games–screw the stupid stats.

Tebow’s long throwing release didn’t show up so much against the Chargers’ pass rush as it did in the numerous times his balls were tardy to his receivers.–Mike Klis

His “long throwing release” meant the balls were tardy to their receivers? I call BS. Watch Kyle Orton in his first year with the Broncos. People claimed he couldn’t throw the long ball, he was under-throwing and Brandon Marshall bailed him out numerous times by deflecting the sure interceptions.

It’s timing. It’s timing and knowing your receivers. It’s not a “slow release” and it’s not a “noodle arm.” The kid needs to throw with the first team receivers–oh, and throwing to them for an entire offseason wouldn’t hurt either.

Next, the great Jeff Legwold takes the cake for the most asinine suggestion of 2011:

2. DENVER (4-12)

Pick: Patrick Peterson*, CB, LSU

The Broncos could look almost anywhere on defense, but with Champ Bailey likely out the door and Andre Goodman over 30, Peterson is the best player available at a need spot.–Jeff Legwold

Jeff Legwold, do you watch this team? Do you even watch the Denver Broncos games? What an absolute turd of a suggestion.

“Oh dear, Champ’s gonna leave so we need a new Champ Bailey at corner…”

Are you kidding me? What an absolute joke, what an egregious mental failure. We HAVE a Champ Bailey, we’ve HAD a Champ Bailey and where has that gotten us? Should we revel in the fact that the Denver Broncos HORRIBLE defense can shut down one top flight receiver? Who cares that we shut down one receiver? Who cares that we have one All Pro corner who can also tackle well… where the hell has that gotten us?

Suck, suck and more suck. Let Bailey go, and if you must get a cornerback, then look into someone reasonable like an Andre Goodman in free agency. Either that, or draft one NO HIGHER than the second round. That Syd Quan kid isn’t bad and we don’t need any kick returners.

We don’t need another Champ Bailey, the Broncos need a Champ Bailey in the front seven. Dumervil isn’t nearly enough. We WILL draft Da’Quan Bowers. We MUST draft him. It is utterly insane not to draft this kid. Wouldn’t it be great if we drafted a CB with the first pick? Oh yeah, more of the same as teams obliterate us through the air and on the ground. Then Bowers goes elsewhere to become the next Julius Peppers? That would be great wouldn’t it? What a disgusting joke. I am disgusted by this inane deficiency of logic. You’ve got to be kidding me. The only way we don’t draft Bowers is if we draft Nick Fairley instead–that’s the only compromise even possible. Strike that, another reason why we wouldn’t draft Bowers is if the Carolina Panthers do the truly insane thing and draft him first. Then you know what we do? We draft Andrew Luck and immediately demand a King’s Ransom consisting of a draft pick, a great player and oh, another draft pick–thanks very much.

To people who suggest we trade down from the pick regardless, screw that. Say no to a pass rusher who’s also tough against the run?

You can’t be serious.

Name me another top flight pass rusher/run stuffer besides Julius Peppers? There ain’t many that’s for damn sure. Talk about a premium to pay for one, talk about a bona fide franchise player on defense. I’ve watched this Bowers and he looks like one hell of an athlete. He’s a hell of an athlete, rushes the passer and he makes big plays against the run.

We are talking about passing on the closest thing to a defensive franchise player. If Bowers requires a 4-3, then this team will switch to a 4-3. I don’t want to hear any bellyaching from the players about switching either. This defense SUCKS. It SUCKS and we will switch schemes on a dime.

Draft a cornerback with the first pick? We damn well better not. I am confident that John Elway isn’t this stupid.

Absolutely stupid.

Elway knows what stops an Elway. It ain’t a cornerback–no matter how good, it’s a pass rush.

San Diego 33 Broncos 28 Final, Thanks Chargers

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

It was a great loss out there today.

No matter what, Timmy Teebs has proven he belongs in this league. Tim Tebow will have every bit as long a career as Kyle Orton in the NFL and Kyle Orton will be around a long while–bouncing from team to team.

Anyone labeling Tebow a bust is a degenerate and doesn’t deserve to be heard. These commentators and their group think is a joke. “Tebow won’t complete over 50 percent of his passes,” who the hell cares if he doesn’t–as long as we win games. Tebow leads the offense down the field and scores points, period. He’s had a very good rookie outing, better than most, better than John Elway.

What remains to be seen is whether Tebow will be great, you can certainly question that–you can do that to any rookie. But to say he can’t play in this league or that his throwing motion will hamper him is a joke, a fraud and an adjunct failure. He throws a beautiful spiral and he’s more accurate than these buffoons give him credit for. This offseason, practicing with the wide receivers–I expect improvement.

It was a great loss today and anyone calling into question my rooting for a loss doesn’t deserve to be heard either. How lame it would have been to win this game. I want that Da’Quan Bowers, that giant man, that freak of nature,  I better see him lumbering on down to the draft stage and putting on a Denver Broncos hat this April.
Da'Quan Bowers

I want that Bowers chasing Philip Rivers all over the field trying to twist him into a pretzel next year.
