Broncos Trade Alphonso Smith for a Burger and Fries

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

The Broncos cut ties with underachieving CB Alphonso Smith, trading him to the Detroit Lions for TE Dan Gronkowski–a receiving tight end who’s legendary statistics include catching a few balls in the preseason–and the Broncos will also get a late round pick.

Adios Alphonso, we hardly knew ye.

Broncos Shopping CB Alphonso Smith

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com claims the Broncos are looking to trade Alphonso Smith and they want a fifth rounder or a facsimile thereof in return. Yes, it probably wasn’t a good pick when we gave up a first rounder to move up for Smith, but the drafting of Perrish Cox, and possibly even Syd’Quan Thompson makes up for it. People say this Alphonso Smith has shown flashes, and he has, but he’s ho-hum most of the time out there, and now we’ve got a fifth rounder outplaying him–that should tell you something right there.

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Details are scant so far, but after last nights Broncos vs Seahawks game there were a few injuries:

Rookie CB Alphonso Smith was seen with an ice pack around his left knee.

QB Chris Simms seems to have sprained his ankle.

DT Marcus Thomas has a shoulder injury and CB Tony Carter was limping on his left leg. Source: Denver Post

The Post also looks at Denver’s new pass rushing scheme and how the players are reacting to it, and Jeff Legwold analyzes last night’s game position by position.

This came in late last night to the site’s email asking to show it, I wasn’t going to post it at first, but I emailed it to Horvil and he said ok.

Broncos Notes 8/12 Torain Train Derailed (again)

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Denver Post:

RB Ryan Torain was waived by the Broncos today after straining a knee ligament. Torain showed some skill as a running back, however he missed most of last year with a dislocated elbow and when he returned to play he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Jeff Legwold quickly points out rookie CB Alphonso Smith is coming along well, snagging an interception in a red zone defense practice today.

CBS4Denver:

More on Torain’s departure and the Broncos signed running back Marcus Thomas to take his place on the roster.

DenverBroncos.com:

Quotes from Head Coach Josh McDaniels and QB Kyle Orton following today’s practice.
