Broncos Notes 8/17 Marshall and Dawkins Practicing

Monday, August 17th, 2009

ESPN:

Broncos WR Brandon Marshall and S Brian Dawkins are back on the field practicing. Wearing a cast on his broken hand, it is questionable whether Dawkins will play in this Saturday’s preseason game against the Seahawks.

Denver Post:

Mike Klis reports Brandon Marshall mentioned that Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White recently received a six year and million dollar contract.  The difference, is that White doesn’t have a history of legal troubles and the Broncos are apparently waiting to see whether Marshall is fully recovered from hip surgery as well.

Lindsay Jones spoke with S Brian Dawkins who claims he was very anxious watching the Broncos on television instead of being able to participate in last Thursday’s game due to a broken hand.

Woody Paige claims he has learned to live with Orton as the starting QB. He doesn’t seem all too enthusiastic about it either.

Colorado Springs Gazette:

Frank Schwab posts a quick rundown of Sunday’s Broncos training camp. Kyle Orton threw a couple good deep balls but then had one intercepted by S David Bruton.

DenverBroncos.com:

Josh McDaniels answers questions from the media following Sunday’s practice on the official team site.

I thought the Broncos had a decent showing last week despite Orton’s terrible throws. The 3-4 “disguised” linebacker rushing defensive scheme looks like a fun one to watch this year. It is much better than seeing all four Denver lineman almost completely neutralized while the opposing quarterback picks us apart. Hopefully the front seven’s play continues to be effective.

Is it just me, or does time start to really fly by once football season commences?

Broncos Notes 7/30

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Denver Post:

Woody Paige takes a guess at the Broncos starting roster of players and mentions the Broncos hired a new director of video operations Steve Scarnecchia. Woody seems to imply the signing is controversial since Scarnecchia worked with the Patriots video staff from 2001-2004 and the Jets for the last three years. Two years ago a Patriots assistant was caught illegally taping Jets defensive signals and “Scarnecchia’s name came up.” Sounds a bit more like a slow news day.

Paige also offers advice on what to look for during camp and how to approach players for autographs in his mailbag segment.

Lindsay Jones reports the Broncos early depth chart positions will remain very fluid with starters rotating in the morning and afternoon workouts. Players coming off injuries D.J. Williams and Brandon Marshall were held out from another day of practice.

Jeff Legwold looks at of rookie Center Blake Schlueter’s rise from small town life to the NFL. Schlueter is listed at 279 pounds, the smallest of the Broncos offensive linemen, but McDaniels described him as a “really strong player, a great athlete at his position, who plays bigger than he is.”

Vikings WR Bobby Wade claims Brian Urlacher called new Bears quarterback Jay Cutler the p word that sounds like wussy in private. Urlacher denies the comment.

CBS4Denver:

A piece on rookie CB Alphonso Smith surfaces at CBS4, the Broncos will give Smith every opportunity to be the versatile player he was in college.

Colorado Springs Gazette:

Frank Schwab reports the Broncos quarterbacks also arrived in camp a week early, in addition to the rookie players.

DenverBroncos.com:

A piece on Tight Ends Richard Quinn and Marquez Branson who became friends before the draft and were both signed by the Broncos. The article also talks about how Josh McDaniels has been happy with Alphonso Smith’s play and attitude thus far and that he’s been pleased with the information retention of the Broncos new quarterbacks.

Boss Bailey Released, Casey Wiegmann Signed

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

The Broncos released the oft injured Boss Bailey and signed Casey Wiegmann through the 2010 season. Champ’s brother wasn’t much of a factor in Denver, then again not many defensive players were last season overall. He’s one player that just can’t seem to stay on the field for any great length of time. Glad to see Casey Wiegmann signed, he certainly solidifies the middle of the offensive line now that Nalen is retired.

In other Brandon Marshall news,  it seems Marshall and his agent Kennard McGuire state Bowlen will “accomodate Marshall’s wishes” to be traded, and wished him good luck in the future. Later, McDaniels is quoted as saying ““We met after Pat’s meeting with Brandon and we are going to continue our dialogue with Brandon and his representative,” and  “We look forward to having Brandon at training camp.”

Since McDaniels supposedly had a lot to do with Cutler’s trade request, my guess is that Marshall will be traded, if they can, and McDaniels is simply trying to distance himself from this situation.  Bowlen in the past said he doesn’t want players that don’t want to be a Bronco, Marshall doesn’t have anything bad to say about the organization it seems, but he sure seems to want out of Denver.

Marshall Appeals, Andre Hall Ready to Rumble

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The Broncos top wide receiver Brandon Marshall missed practice yesterday to appeal his suspension before league officials in New York. Coach Mike Shanahan said it could take a couple of days or weeks to learn if Marshall’s appeal is successful. The Denver Post also reports that the NFL may look into changing the leagues future regular season schedule from 16 games to 18 as part of the new collective bargaining agreement for 2011. The idea hinges on doing away with two preseason games, which are often see less ticket sales since starters have limited playing time or do not play at all.

RMN reports running back Andre Hall is feeling confident and can’t wait for the season to start especially after having tough times in Tampa Bay and Chicago where he didn’t make the teams. RMN also has a piece on former Broncos cornerback Tyrone Braxton. Braxton talks about his winning battle with drug addiction and his new volunteer job as an assistant High School football coach.

The Post also has a write-up on Nate Webster after winning the starting middle linebacker job and Mike Klis serves up his latest mailbag answering questions ranging from the effectiveness of Patrick Ramsey to John Lynch and spying.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Broncos WR Darrell Jackson will not see the field until the season opener at Oakland. The offseason free agent acquisition is likely to start in place of Brandon Marshall. Jackson was held out of the last two preseason games with an ankle sprain.
