Broncos Practice Squad Additions, Lynch Cut by Patriots

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports the Broncos added S Josh Barrett, QB Darrell Hackney, Offensive lineman Mitch Erikson and Defensive lineman Steven Harris to their practice squad.

In other league news RMN reports the New England Patriots released former Broncos Safety John Lynch today.

I am certainly glad to see Darrell Hackney and Josh Barrett on the practice squad, Hackney has played well and Barrett looks to have potential. John Lynch being released by the Patriots seems to reinforce Horvil Tiki’s assessment that Shanahan was right in limiting Lynch’s playing time due to his level of play, and gives less credence to the thoughts that Lynch left the Broncos just because he didn’t think they were contenders.

The Post also has a write-up on Nate Webster after winning the starting middle linebacker job and Mike Klis serves up his latest mailbag answering questions ranging from the effectiveness of Patrick Ramsey to John Lynch and spying.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Broncos WR Darrell Jackson will not see the field until the season opener at Oakland. The offseason free agent acquisition is likely to start in place of Brandon Marshall. Jackson was held out of the last two preseason games with an ankle sprain. RMN also takes a quick look at some of the remaining position battles before Denver’s final preseason game against the Cardinals.
